Public Comment on the Recommendations of the ABC Working Group

Councilmember Jim Graham, Chairperson of the Committee on Human Services, will convene a public oversight roundtable for "Review of the Recommendations of the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control laws) Task Force." The roundtable will be held on Tuesday, May 8 at 1:00PM in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004.

Councilmember Graham convened a broad-based ABC Working Group in December 2011. The Working Group, comprised of ANC Commissioners, Citizens' Association Representatives, business representatives, and MPD, as well as the Director of ABRA, met about twice monthly from December through April, with discussion on a wide array of issues of concern to neighborhood groups and business owners - all related to the District's alcohol sales and licensing laws. The Working Group has developed recommended changes to Title 25 of the DC Code, DC's law governing sales and consumption of alcohol.

Councilmember Graham will hold a public oversight roundtable at this time to hear public comment on the Working Group recommendations. Those who wish to testify should register online or contact Mr. Malcolm Cameron of the Committee on Human Services by email at mcameron@dccouncil.us or by telephone at (202) 724-8191 by Monday, May 7, 2012. Email contacts to Mr. Cameron should include the residential ward, full name, title, and affiliation - if applicable - of the person(s) testifying. Witnesses should bring 16 copies of their written testimony to the hearing. Individuals will be permitted three minutes for oral presentation; individuals representing organizations or groups will be permitted five minutes.

If you are unable to testify at the public oversight roundtable, written statements are encourages and will be made part of the official record.
