Public Comment on Sunday Sales of Alcohol by Class-A Licensees in the District of Columbia

Councilmember Jim Graham, Chairperson of the Committee on Human Services, will convene a Public Oversight Roundtable for "Public Comment on Sunday Sales of Alcohol by Class-A Licensees in the District of Columbia." The roundtable will be held on Tuesday, June 12 at 11AM in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004.

In the coming months, Councilmember Graham will draft omnibus legislation to make a series of changes to the District's alcohol laws. In preparation for this, the Councilmember convened a broad-based Alcoholic Beverage Control Working Group which developed many recommended changes during the course of their work from December 2011 to April 2012. A possible legislative change allowing Sunday sales of alcohol by Class-A licensees was discussed in the Working Group and elsewhere.

Councilmember Graham will hold a Public Oversight Roundtable to hear public comment specifically on the views of the public regarding a law change to permit Sunday alcohol sales (sales from stores with a Class-A license, allowing them to sell hard liquor as well as beer and wine).

Email contacts to Mr. Cameron should include the residential ward, full name, title, and affiliation - if applicable - of the person(s) testifying. Witnesses should bring 15 copies of their written testiony to the hearing. Individuals will be permitted 3 minutes for oral presentation; individuals representing organizations or groups will be permitted 5 minutes.

If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.
