Councilmember Marion Barry, Chairperson of the Committee on Aging and Community Affairs, announces a public roundtable on the nominees for the Commission on African Affairs.  The public hearing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in Hearing Room 120 of the John A. Wilson Building.

The stated purpose of the proposed resolutions are  to confirm the following nominees for the Commission on African Affairs: George Banks, Lafayette Barnes, Nana Seshibe, Chime Asonye, Loide Jorge, Gladys Kamau, Tereguebode Goungou, Jean-Francis Varre, Sefanit Befekadu, Sharon Asongayi, and Ify Nwabukwu.

Those who wish to testify should register online or contact Mr. Garret King, Committee Director, at (202) 724-0845 or via e-mail at gking@dccouncil.us, and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Friday, January 20, 2012. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 10 copies of written testimony.  Witnesses should limit their testimony to three minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses. 

If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.  Copies of written statements should be submitted either to Mr. King, or to Ms. Nyasha Smith, Secretary to the Council, Room 5 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20004.  The record will close ten days following the conclusion of the roundtable.
