ANC Empowerment Amendment Act of 2012
Councilmember Marion Barry, Chairperson of the Committee on Aging and Community Affairs, announces a public hearing on B19-716. The public hearing will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12 in Hearing Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building.
The stated purpose of B19-716 is to amend the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions Act of 1976 to eliminate the prohibition on Commissions initiating actions in the courts and to eliminate the prohibition on Commissions using their allocated funds for legal expenses associated with Commission business.
Those who wish to testify should register online or contact Mr. Garret King, Committee Director, at (202) 741-0948, or by fax at (202) 741-0911, or via e-mail at gking@dccouncil.us, and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Monday, May 7, 2012. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 10 copies of written testimony. Witnesses should limit their testimony to three minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses.
If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Copies of written statements should be submitted either to Mr. King, or to Ms. Nyasha Smith, Secretary to the Council, Room 5 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20004. The record will close ten days following the conclusion of the hearing.
